Although logical analysis is useful in our daily lives, this method of thought often misrepresents how we construct narratives and experience time. Leaving behind the need for linear sequencing, Murphy’s work investigates scenarios in which logic breaks down, places where one can suspend their waking consciousness.

Martin Murphy received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and his MFA from Hunter College. The artist currently lives and works in New York City.

Although logical analysis is useful in our daily lives, this method of thought often misrepresents how we construct narratives and experience time. Leaving behind the need for linear sequencing, Murphy’s work investigates scenarios in which logic breaks down, places where one can suspend their waking consciousness.

Upon this approach, Murphy creates experiences in which temporal relationships progressively lapse within the mind of the viewer. In this way, a resonance is created which opens up notions of time and free will.

Martin Murphy received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and his MFA from Hunter College. The artist currently lives and works in New York City.

Born 1960, Brazil
the artist lives and works in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the great painter Martha Carvalho started her successful career right after attending the Rio de Janeiro Architecture University.
After graduating she had the opportunity to develop her professional activities collaborating with the over world famous architects Sérgio Rodrigues and Sérgio Bernardes who commented that she could be considered our representative of the Planet Earth who could take our imagination away from it towards the cosmos.

Now she presents in the Colorida Art Gallery, in Lisbon, Portugal, the exhibition “Changing Feelings”.

Martha’s brushstrokes, full of strength and lightness, give to her paintings a touch of softness where the sensibility of the artist is expressed in the harmonious colors. The forms don’t represent our reality but lines and surfaces where we can see feelings and emotions. We can have different meanings, all of them full of sentiments where the instinct can show us in an enigmatic way, a scenery and its meaning. The contrast between the forms and the colors gives the tone of the artist’s search for harmony and emotional effusion.

Artist Statement

Reid Bricker was born in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1982. Reid studied fine arts for over a decade covering numerous mediums and styles of art. Some of these styles include Graffiti, Carving, Sculpting, and Graphic art. The mediums Reid applies to those and other such forms of art include but also exceed: Oil, Charcoal, Ink/Pen, Pencil, shell, & stone. Graduating in 2001, Reid was accepted to U of M in Arts and Architecture. Over the years he has been recognized by the arts community. The WAG, Artstravaganza 01, “Young Artists on the Avenue”, MCC’s annual spring exhibition, and Canadian Prairie Carving Championship to name a few. Reid is a member of MISA Inc. a sculpting Co-op in the exchange district of downtown Winnipeg where he is now the acting treasurer.

Some years prior to sculpting, Reid focused on incorporating his strengths with mediums and movement’s/style’s that best suited his own outlook. He began to incorporate Surrealism, graphic art and also considered the use of line, shading, depth perception and 3D space. Reid then used these concepts in his graffiti styled works, at which he became increasingly able. Once advised that he would do well in architecture, Reid took first year courses in Architecture and Environmental Design at U of M. He did well but found that it was not for him. Taking “Math in Arts” at the university though, broadened Reid’s graphic style and now accompanies the discipline’s he currently works in. Reid studied art history from (Prehistory) 9000bce to 2000ce, and many acknowledged Artists and Architects in greater depths.

Reid‘s introduction to sculpture transpired at “Artstravaganza” in /01, where he sculpted in Quebec soapstone under the tutelage of Katharina Stieffenhofer (BFA, U of M). It was then that he realized his preference for sculpture in the three dimensional deductive method Katharina was demonstrating.

For 3 years Reid sculpted under his own guidance. Searching for studio space Reid by chance met up with his former teacher Jean Bachynsky. Mrs. Bachynsky who had also found herself immersed in stone sculpture told Reid about the Manitoba Institute of Sculptors and Artists Inc. Happily, Reid has been sculpting there ever since under the guidance of some of the city’s best and most accomplished stone sculptors and carvers. After 8 years of working with stone now, Reid feels that he’s finally getting started.

INFO

Robin McAulay’s work traverses aspects surrounding contemporary culture and the infinite materialization of urban landscape. As a photographer his images combine conceptual, abstract elements, and simultaneously questioning common notions of the sociology of neo-primitivism in modern Europe. He positions himself within the ubiquitous dualism of dynamism and subversion of allegorical images as patterns.

McAulay’s photographic images are simply a static synthesis of the conceptual and the non-static of ideological foundation. His creative strategy is an assault on 21st century geomorphology of colour, space and form. McAulay engages in a collective dialogue, constructing realities and explores abstract and dynamic scenery as motifs to describe the idea of hyper-real space. Symbiotic dialogue is sanctioned putting into its place forms and dynamics, conceptual loops to non-linear narratives.

Robin McAulay lives and works in Copenhagen.

Art-gallery Thyencamp chooses artist of the month: David Watson Hood.

1001 Reasons to Love the Earth – september t/m december 2008
