Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany. ?It?s not about fascinating people with the strange and unknown, but rather about bringing things that people know nearer to them. We want to remind people to look at things more closely.? documenta 12 curator Roger M. Buergel in an interview with dw-world.de. ?The curators certainly took a lot of […]

Born 1956, USA
the artist lives and works in Yadkinville, NC, USA

Penny lives and works in Yadkinville,NC. Yadkinville is a small rural community in the foothills of North Carolina. Her family has always been very supportive of her art. She has a wonderful husband and two children(who are both married)and three grandchildren.

Penny’s artwork is reflective of the rural lifestyle of her community. She works in oils and with pencil and charcoal. “My art is one of the things in my life that I know that I can believe in and trust without the enormous demands that surrounds my daily life. It has not been easy and I have had a lot of failures in my endeavors to reach my goal of being known as an “ARTIST”.”
Penny states that one of her biggest hurdles has been her obsession for perfection in her paintings and drawings. Penny has a way of incorporating realism with touches of the way things are imagined.
Her greatest accomplishment thus far in her career was being asked by The United Way of Yadkinville to do a painting for them. Each year they choose an artist to donate a picture for limited edition prints. Table of Harmony was the picture that was chosen.

You can see Penny’s other work on her website.

Artist’s Statement
In my work I use the image of my body and my face to reflect ideas/feelings about the world, on the sufferings and pain people have to go through for no other reason then greed. My figures seem remote, withdrawn from time and space, closed onto themselves in an uneasy and disturbing pose. I love the aesthetics of a body in pain, as if it is a sign language trying to communicate without the need of any spoken words. Coming from a graphic design background I like symbols, logos, economical ways of story telling and traditional eastern shadow theatre which especially shows its influence in some of my vinyl works. I am not an optimist but there is still some hope deep down somewhere in my heart, sometimes causing clashes.
I use the computer as my drawing and painting tool. It allows me great flexibility to adjust my work to the needs of the exhibition space. I also experiment with different material like alginate, plaster, vinyl, digital print combined with traditional printmaking, painting, etc.

Born 1931, Argentina
the artist lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina
