Born 1956, Turkey the artist lives and works in Brussels, Belgium
Artist’s Statement In my work I use the image of my body and my face to reflect ideas/feelings about the world, on the sufferings and pain people have to go through for no other reason then greed. My figures seem remote, withdrawn from time and space, closed onto themselves in an uneasy and disturbing pose. I love the aesthetics of a body in pain, as if it is a sign language trying to communicate without the need of any spoken words. Coming from a graphic design background I like symbols, logos, economical ways of story telling and traditional eastern shadow theatre which especially shows its influence in some of my vinyl works. I am not an optimist but there is still some hope deep down somewhere in my heart, sometimes causing clashes. I use the computer as my drawing and painting tool. It allows me great flexibility to adjust my work to the needs of the exhibition space. I also experiment with different material like alginate, plaster, vinyl, digital print combined with traditional printmaking, painting, etc. Bio Graduated from Istanbul Marmara University, Fine Arts Faculty, Graphic Arts Department. Worked as a graphic designer and illustrator until he had his first exhibition in Istanbul in 1987. Immigrated to Australia in 1988. In 1989 he had his second solo exhibition. Joined in several group exhibitions. Moved to Belgium in 1995. Quit his daytime job in 2001 to fully concentrate on his art. His 2005 solo exhibition in Istanbul received good reviews. Some of his works are in the collection of National Gallery of Australia and private collections.
