Last fall, we were impressed by a series of 99 ink-and-paper drawings at the Documenta 12 exhibition in Kassel, Germany. Each drawing depicted an acute fear and included a short, handwritten explanation (like, “A man is already in

DANIEL MARTIN DIAZ
In his latest book, “Mysterium Fidei (Mystery of Faith)” (La Luz de Jesus Press, www.laluzdejesuspress.com), Daniel Martin Daz explores the vast amount of human suffering and his undying faith in the afterlife. Dazs mystical imagery reflects the influences of Byzantine iconography, retablos, ex votos, the Illuminati, alchemy, ephemera, and 16th century anatomical engravings, which he blends with archaic imagery and old-world aesthetics. “I continue to be amazed and inspired by many artists both past and present, who have been successful in capturing the complexities of the human spirit. We run from those things that we cannot explain. These are the things that we must attempt to explain through art. All the beauty and tragedy that is life. The world between imagination and completion is an infinite one. It is a solitary journey, yet the many paths are full of wanderers who are also searching and eager to share their findings. I am most influenced by the great amount of human suffering that has occurred throughout history and one’s undying faith in the after life. Often times I am subconsciously influenced by world attitudes or stories and also by the people I am closest to. I prefer to keep an open mind and let the subject matter take on a life of its own” states Diaz.

J.J. Barmettler is a filmmaker by profession. He has been creating what he calls “Interdimensional Abstracts” since the age of six. After an extraordinary experience in Santa Fe New Mexico, he and a group of spiritual adventurers experienced an interdimensional gateway that formed the basis of his larger scale abstract paintings. According to J.J., “Each piece I create holds an interdimensional gateway of its own and upon experiencing the artwork, it can aide in one’s spiritual transformation process. Each piece is a world of infinity and personal manifestations. Once you embrace the interdimensional experience, it will be with you for the rest of your life and can help bring a new understanding to our physical reality and it’s connection to one’s higher self.”

You Can’t Win Them All

Born 1958, Bosnia
the artist lives and works in San Diego, USA

My current body of work is focused on creating artwork that will both inform and entertain the viewer through images of our everyday experiences. I believe every person has a story to tell, and I attempt to capture that story in the space all stories reveal themselves. My work is playful yet serious it is influenced by the images and iconography from popular, contemporary culture, including advertising, music, television and magazines. I have a compelling drive to create images which explore, illustrate and express my personal thoughts and feelings.
My work embodies a passionate response to the human condition: the comedies and tragedies of life and all of the wonderful experiences in between. The use of words has become an integral part of my work. The titles I give to my work tell a story that allows the painting to be manipulated.
My aim is not to answer the questions; it is to raise questions and to make a commentary on aspects of our everyday life.
