| Born 1982, USA the artist lives and works in New York, NY, USA Although logical analysis is useful in our daily lives, this method of thought often misrepresents how we construct narratives and experience time. Leaving behind the need for linear sequencing, Murphys work investigates scenarios in which logic breaks down, places where one can suspend their waking consciousness. Upon this approach, Murphy allows a works chain of events to fold in on itself. As one begins to think along with the material, visual and temporal relationships progressively lapse within the mind of the viewer. In this way, a resonance is created which opens up notions of time and free will. Martin Murphy received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2005, and his MFA from Hunter College in New York City. Martins work in video, installation, and soundscape uses recent technologies in order to explore the processes of perception by way of illusions and architectural interventions. Martins work has been shown in Kansas City at the Society for Contemporary Photography, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and he is currently designing an installation for the Queens Museum of Art in New York City.
