News: Walter Logeman

Thursday, 3 January, 2008 Christchurch, New Zealand
I have just completed a series of 12 works called “Earth Crosses”. They grew out of major project I completed last year Thousand Sketches –> See the Earth Crosses slide show.

Wait for it to buffer and watch slowly & quietly. They are a meditation.

The image here is the last one in the series. These are available in editions of 25 pigment in prints on A3+ Hahnemühle Paper.

The prime example here is Mai Abu ElDahab, Anton Vidokle, and Florian Waldvogel’s attempt, albeit ultimately unsuccessful, to reimagine Manifesta 6 as an experimental art academy, but one could also mention Documenta 12,

* Nout Lequen, artist of Dutch descent, born in Paris in 1954, has her workshop close to Grenoble, France. She studied at the fine art school and in various workshops in Angers and Grenoble. Her painting technique includes all type of media, as well as ink, pastels and oil. Parelell to her work as a painter, she sculpts and gives introductory courses in contemporary art at the academy of creation and artistic development (ACDA).

* Nout Lequen offers a varied, figurative or abstracted pictorial work to us, juggling subtly with various forms of expression where the fabrics mix with the drawings and the pigments with ink and oil. What is very important for her is to open for us a space with the fluidity of life, to introduce us to this moment of delicate passage, between what is almost born and what has been.

* In her workshop in Meylan (Isère, Dauphiné, France) near the Chartreuse Mountains, she was touched by the silence and the lights of the Alps. She remained for a long time with “black”. Not the black of blackness or ordeal, but the black which is for me the core from which emanates the color. What is offered here to us is an unforeseen but possible meeting with our interiority and the one of the artist.

Arturo Meade
Mexico D.F., marzo / march 1963
www.arturomeade.net

Arturo Meade is an artist whose work demonstrates both the felicity and the gravity of the artistic process. Meade’s work is immediately appealing for its vibrancy and joyfulness yet holds your interest with its underlying narrative and profundity. Heavy textures, high contrast colors, and quirky, slightly off-kilter geometric compositions typify his work. Principally abstract but not exclusively, Meade incorporates ancient symbolism and a primitive, childlike aesthetic on top of rich backgrounds. Is it a smokestack, a burial site, a smiling insect, or a train careening off its tracks? You can never quite put your finger on it.

Arturo Meade was born in Mexico City and moved to San Miguel de Allende twelve years ago. Since childhood, Meade has maintained a close relationship with art and creativity, working as an experimental musician in his youth, and later designing and manufacturing furniture for companies in Mexico, New Zealand, and Europe. In San Miguel, he has been the Creative Director of several galleries, including La Galeria Aurora in the Fabrica La Aurora. Since he began painting six years ago, his work has been shown in San Miguel, Mexico City, Real de Catorce, New York, and Valencia, Spain. Recently, his work was included in a publication by the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.

The Non Place (Internal Landscape)

The Choice >Lie (Internal Landscape)

From what I want > everyhthing (Internal Landscape)

Born 1972, Argentina
the artist lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina

In general the works are referred to a personal vision of different experiences like death, emptiness and human relations.

In this case in particulary this series of paints talks about the places and nonplaces that are in each one of us. Internal zones of little stability where we think we can have a little rest. Some spaces of transition that are far away of the “daily forms”. The intersection between conscious and unconscious.
