| 2007-2008 St. Andrews, Fife 01334 478221, Scotland “Ariadne’s Clue” is based on a Greek myth. The young Athenian Theseus, son of King Aegeus of Athens, volunteered himself as a sacrifice to the Minotaur in Crete. Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos fell in love with the aspiring hero, and to aid Theseus, she gave him a ball of string, or in Old English, a clewe of thread. Theseus left a trail of this thread as he made his way through the Labyrinth, thus helping him to find his way out again. This is where the modern spelling of clue originated from, meaning “something that helps solve a puzzle”. Theseus slew the Minotaur, followed the thread out of the Labyrinth, and ran off with Ariadne. Manolis Patramanis was born in Heraklion, Crete. He studied pottery at the School of Free Studies in Chania, Crete. He has worked on many commercial exhibitions including The International Fair of Frankfurt. He has also worked as an instructor for pottery seminars organised by the Center for Professional Training. In 1988 he set up his own workshop in Heraklion where he lives and works today. Manolis continues to exhibit exclusively in the UK through Artery Gallery of St Andrews and Crieff. Website: Artery Gallery |
