ARTIST STATEMENT

Nature is everywhere in my work. And wherever I look, I find the earth expressing itself in its own distinct way. The extremes are most provocative to me, such as the emptiness of a desert expanse or the intricate world that is seen through a microscope. It’s what isn’t obvious that keeps me looking, and I look without any desire to mimic or reproduce what the eye sees. In that sense, my work couples nature with the imaginal world.
My paintings are not objects as much as they are a record of how to search. I try to listen multi-dimensionally—both aurally and visually—and to respond to what I hear without fixing it in a representation, without imprisoning it in a picture. The complexity of the surface is a complexity of perceiving, synthesizing, and navigating a limitless world.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Deborah Barlow was raised in the Western United States, primarily Utah and California, and she has had a life long affinity for the wide open landscapes of deserts and wilderness. She studied art at the University of California at Santa Cruz, the University of Utah and at the University of Grenoble in France. After completing her studies she moved to New York City where she lived for ten years before moving to the Boston area. She currently lives in nearby Brookline and works out of her studio in South Boston.

he has had a number of solo exhibitions in the United States including New York City, San Francisco CA, Santa Cruz CA, Portland OR, Rochester NY, Provincetown MA and Providence RI. She also has exhibited her work overseas at venues in Italy, Belgium and Ireland, and was artist-in-residence at Anam Cara in County Cork Ireland. Her work is included in public and private collections in the United States, Canada and abroad.

REVIEWS

Barlow combines minimalism and “maximalism” to fuse a unique vision…A deep sense of form underlies the complex, nonobjective picture plane, linking the work to landscape and elements of nature. Turner’s late paintings of sea and sky in swirling light and color come to mind; yet while Barlow’s surfaces are highly active, unlike Turner there is no trace of brushwork, adding to the mystery of the process.

Her creativity celebrates visual language as a transformative, primitive, and elemental power.

Born 1946, Czech Republic
the artist lives and works in Vancouver, Canada

Pavel Rehurek was influenced by some Czech and
Slovak émigré artists in the late sixties and seventies. He has since
then been involved in fashion photography, worked in the photographic
research lab at a Canadian university, assisted
a leading portrait artist and exhibited his photo based graphic art
prints in galleries in Europe, Canada and the U.S. He left the art scene
for missionary and teaching work.

He recently re-emerged as a visual artist whose fine art photography and
digital media fusion demonstrate his passion for the figurative,
expressionist style of art. He offers his unique art and portraits in
high-quality images on paper. They are based on his photographs and his
artistic feelings.

Canadian artist of Czech origin, PAVEL REHUREK wants to reach your
heart. He does it by putting his heart on paper with pigmented inks. His
strong and memorable images are stimulating, provoking recollections of
the physical freedoms we sacrifice in living out our busy lives.

REHUREK has wonderful sense of colors and forms and he will capture your
attention with his suspenseful if not bizarre figurative compositions
and portraits with unique subject orientations.

REHUREK achieve this initially in the photographic stage, and then
through special cropping and processes of alteration that enhances
textures, colors and shapes till the point that his art becomes almost
desirable to touch, to communicate with. In his narrow niche he became
master of post-fauvist pop art realism.

It is like meeting Mattise, Warhol and REHUREK for afternoon glass of
champagne, when they reveal their memories and hearts.
