| Born 1962, USA the artist lives and works in Germany, Germany Matthew Bealls paintings are color. Color with weight, body, depth and richness. The artist, who has been working in Germany since 2000, paints abstracts on canvas and paper. His works include two-tone fields of blues and greens or reds and yellows; elongated figures grounded in a monochromatic landscape; and dynamic abstract compositions rendered in slashes and washes of color. Matts works are characterized by deep blues, shimmering oranges, lush greens, smoky grays, sharp yellows and vivid reds, rendered in acrylic on canvas and paper, in motion and tension, and in complement, juxtaposition and contrast with each other. Matt Beall was born and raised in California, along the coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is a self-taught artist, poring over his grandfathers art books and drawing for hours as a child, and studying and deconstructing paintings, sculpture and drawings in the museums and contemporary galleries of Europe and America today. Matts introduction to the relationship of colors to each other, and to design, came on the steel of car bodies in Californias auto body shops, where he painted and customized graphic and abstract designs for more than 15 years. He learned about mixing, toning, layering, shading, grinding, fading, blending and contrasting colors, skills that allow him to express himself with depth and beauty on paper and canvas today. The artist, who speaks German, traveled and worked extensively in Mexico and Central America in the 1990s before moving to Europe. Today, he travels extensively throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions. Collections: Website: Matthew Beall |
