| Born 1976, US the artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, US Ellie Balk works and lives in Brooklyn, NY. She has had many solo exhibitions in New York, Portland, OR, St. Louis, MO and Ohio. As a fine art painter, her work aims to be a balance of extremes. Working in layers, she pushes and pulls the materials, creating a deep picture plane. In her series, Hook-Ups, she uses found objects and hooks to make cute functional paintings. Ellie is an artist teacher, painting Murals with students in Brooklyn Public Schools. | Born 1970, United States the artist lives and works in San Diego, CA, United States metal artist / bench jeweler I am fortunate to live in San Diego, California, where I spend much of my time outdoors. I particularly love our beaches and the ocean, where I can immerse all my senses in the elemental energies I find there. In many of my pieces, I interpret natural forms and forces from the oceanside, seeking to use form, shape, texture and motion to translate sensory details into tangible art. An example is my sea foam, in which I use a method of weaving with wire and chain to create a structure that conveys tropical waves breaking on the shore. All my life, I have felt inspired to create art. Starting when I was five in my grandmothers pottery studio. A few years ago, I became attracted to the making of jewelry. The media used in jewelry (not limited to metal) and the requirements they impose on the creative process intrigue and challenge me, and inspire me to express my sensory impressions as artistic expressions.
