Daune Sheri offers an acute awareness to the discipline of portraiture. All studies are created in graphite pencil or pen and ink. Due to its intricate texture, both lend a heightened realistic approach thus creating a visually strong composition with the end result being an articulate fine detailed rendition of the subject.

Being a self taught portrait artist has led Daune Sheri to a greater understanding and respect of the arts by learning and creating through a discipline of her own errors and misconceptions. By her own admission, she is aware there is always more to learn and there is always a way to better herself. She has a passion to create that is conveyed not by representation alone but rather, by how it is done so with artistry.

The artist takes responsibility of exploring and visualizing every level of detail before it is put to paper. Through this direct observation, she dramatically portrays sensitivity to individual personality and identity. One would be sure to say Daune Sheri’s portraits never lack inner beauty. This may be the very reason “life” is captured within her artwork.

This passion to create has led Daune Sheri to take her work very seriously. She can and does make a difference in the lives of those greatly influenced by art.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In a moment of weakness, it is often said words are left unspoken. I believe the same can be said in respect to portrait art. A vulnerable instant arrested by pencil on paper defines “art left unspoken”…

By this account, I am influenced by the underlying truth of the soul. Certainly, countless physical and emotional observations factor in impressing on me the complex nature of portraiture.

As a portrait artist being receptive to the subject, I hope to depict an image that is unfaltering to the viewer. I try to be as objective as one can be without binding myself to limitations. My observations allow me to interpret what is perceived real and what is perceived unremarkable. Both however, are essential in portraying a raw likeness and a strong composition.

With unconditional honesty, I interpret what I see through a filter of what I know by hand and what I feel by heart. My expectation is to do more than just imitate what I see but rather, if chance is on my side, be witness to that unspoken voice…

Christian Raffin was born in 1957. He works in Paris in France and lives close to Paris in Sens. Solitary and silent child, it very early develops a passion for art and, more particularly, for the drawing. Teenager, the contingencies of the life push him to subject its artistic sensitivity to technical studies. After having obtained its graduate of engineer,he settles two years in Tunisia, where he is devoted to the photography. Of return in France, he indeed makes career for several years in industry. Influenced by various human and artistic meetings, it moves finally towards the oil on canevas paint. When he was laid off, he has decided to be devoted fully to painting. He lives in Bourgogne in France close to Paris, where he has its workshop and exposes its fabrics in various galleries in France
