| Born 1977, Ukraine the artist lives and works in New York , USA Galya Kovalyova was born in 1977 in Odessa, Ukraine. She grew up in Boston and graduated from Brandeis University. Galya currently resides in New York City, where, for the past 3 years, she is exploring on her own terms the boundaries of photography and all that these boundaries can open. Solo Shows Include: -Doron Braunshtein Gallery at Apollo Braun, Group Shows Include: Artist Statement: As an aspiring photographer, I would like to become an emotional instance note-taker. I wish to be able to capture a unique combination of impressions of the moment, which of course include to some degree the worlds of the past, the future and the imagination, which I am just barely aware of, but believe it to have been present. I do not claim to know or fully understand the subject of my passer-by impressions, nor to be able to relate about it on the grounds of the subject, but I claim to have entered at one time in an emotional and aesthetic engagement with it and all I can wish for is that the feeling of that engagement will bring up another feeling in the emotional memory of the viewer and thus continue a dialogue that can not be expressed in words or even photography. In the experience of a traveler this situation can be called dejavu; I hope to re-create this kind of travel with my work. Website: Galya Photography |
